History and traditions

Zeller Chocolatier SA

The story begins in 1959, when Mr and Mrs Zeller opened their chocolate factory in the heart of the famous Place Longemalle. One was the chocolatier-confectioner and the other was in charge of sales. In 1994, Monika Gimmi and her sister Brigitte Zentilini joined the company. After a few years, the family business moved a few metres away. The windows of the chocolate shop were now on the corner of the emblematic Rue du Rhône and Place Longemalle, where the shop still stands today. Inside these windows, you could discover a wide range of chocolates and unique creations, as well as the laboratory located at the back of the shop. Building on this success, in 1998 a second confectioner-chocolatier, Bruno Chessel, joined the company. In order to continue to offer original creations and quality chocolates in the best conditions, the decision was taken in 2011 to open a second shop in Thônex, where the space dedicated to the laboratory would be more dedicated to creation. Over the years, the two sisters and Bruno have become shareholders in the company, so it was only natural that when Mr and Mrs Zeller passed away, the succession should be entrusted to them.


For more than 20 years, this trio has complemented each other perfectly:

From pralines to bars, including unique figurines, the cocoa is first processed in the workshop, then packaged and displayed in the Longemalle boutique to offer you gourmet creations. Faithful to its Swiss roots, the Zeller chocolate factory strives to offer quality chocolates that reflect the know-how of its craftsmen. By constantly improving our recipes, using the best possible ingredients and handcrafting our products, we contribute to the excellence of Swiss chocolate. With love and the utmost care, it is only natural that this trio has created a range of chocolates such as the Di


Who are we | The team

Behind our chocolates is a small team of 6 people, each of whom plays an essential role in the company. And above all, there is a kind of family resemblance that binds us together...


First of all, the 2 chocolatiers, Monique & Bruno, who work in the laboratory in Thônex. Although they have both been chocolatiers for over 30 years, they each have their own area of expertise: Monique, who has an artistic bent, is in charge of creating new products and refining each piece by hand. Bruno, on the other hand, takes care of the technical side and the production of all the chocolate pieces that are the result of her overflowing imagination.

Then Brigitte, Natacha & Fanny, who work in the Place Longemalle shop. Brigitte is in charge of sales and, thanks to her professional eye, the sublimation of the shop and its famous windows. Fanny has recently joined the team. She is in charge of some of the sales and the production of our chocolate boxes. Natacha, for her part, occupies a place closer to the computer with, among other things, communication on social networks and graphic design.



But that's not all! The year 2020 has some surprises in store for us. The arrival of the Corona virus hit us hard. We had to react quickly in order to maintain the financial situation that all craftsmen had to face and are still fighting against. A wonderful opportunity presented itself and we were lucky enough to be able to open another shop in Yvoire. This is where Marie-France joined our team. A bubbly young woman who manages our new shop perfectly.

 


A family resemblance? First Brigitte and Monique, two very close sisters. Then Natacha and Bruno, a father-in-law and his daughter-in-law. A great recipe that turns our chocolate factory into a small family cocoon, where there is good collective understanding and where it is a pleasure to come together every day of the year to try and continue to surprise your taste buds each time you visit.

The laboratory

The heart of the laboratory is where the magic of chocolate creation takes place; Monique gives free rein to her imagination and Bruno does his utmost to sublimate the chocolate. Inspired by the seasons, this duo creates small animal figures in chocolate and chocolate paste (mice, fish, penguins, etc.), always with an eye for originality. It is also in this laboratory that all their house specialities and traditional recipes are cooked according to the seasons, such as:

The shop

As soon as you enter the shop, let your sense of smell be assaulted by the sweet, wafting scent of chocolate. Then by your eyes, which will be attracted by the various figures, boxes and pralines on display after having been carefully packaged with their ribbons. And finally, by your taste buds when you try one of our chocolates. This shop is perfectly run by Brigitte. Every morning, our two chocolatiers bring in the chocolates made in the Thônex laboratory. From pralines to figurines, it is the creative side that defines the identity and personality of the Zeller boutique.
